Chrissy Metz’s Therapy Journey: Overcoming Trauma for Mental Well-being
Chrissy Metz explains the remarkable influence of therapy in enabling her to conquer adverse childhood events, which she faced and lasted through on her life.
In a recent interview with Verywell Mind, Chrissy Metz, the 41-year-old This Is Us star, pointed out how crucial therapy was for her to survive difficult moments. She did not hold back when disclosing about past traumas from her early life which remained hindrance to her soundness either mentally or bodily.
Chrissy came to understand how vital it is to deal with root causes when she had an upsetting panic attack on her 30th birthday leading to a turning point in her life. She accepted she hadn’t been taking the steps required for her own self-improvement.
“Metz elucidated that she truly desired to know the reasons why she eats thus harming her body and all that it entails, evidently the past hurts, all what has not been solved by her father and mother, in summary, everything was in a great mess by the time she turned 30.”
Chrissy said that one could only deal with these problems head-on because they would not go away unless tackled head on. “We do not want to feel distressed, but handling your dilemmas head-on is the best path forward as they will never disappear if left unaddressed,” she added.
Metz expressed her gratitude for having access to mental healthcare, emphasizing the importance of her therapist in those moments. She shared that engaging in conversations with a mental health expert has been instrumental in her progress.
One valuable strategy she has adopted is journaling, specifically a practice called “journal speak.” This involves freely expressing all thoughts and feelings, sometimes on a computer for easy erasure.
Metz finds this process helpful in excavating and removing emotions, allowing her to address the core issues affecting her mental health.
Metz thinks that we were placed on this earth to develop and make things better for those who come after us. She believes that every day is another chance to improve oneself despite the inequitable and underhand approaches to the phenomenon; however, she adds that it is worth going through all that.
Her character as Kate on “This Is Us” allows her to tackle mental health problems.
Metz is of the opinion that educating persons through either television programs or conversation can help get rid of fear, embarrassment or self-condemnation related to mental health; she highlights how significant this process is on the path leading to a healthier state of mind mentioning how “This Is Us” goes farther than it seems at first sight.
